Caption: The State Council upgraded Lhasa Economics and Technological Development Zone (LAETDZ) to a state-level development zone on 19 September 2000. LAETDZ is located at Dongga Town of Duilongdeqing county. The area designated for development is 5.46 km2 and it consists of 'A' and 'B' Districts, both facing one another.
The Chinese government has announced that a massive railway project that is underway will link the remote Western Region, Qinghai Golmud city, directly cross Tibet and end at Lhasa.
Once completed it will be the first railway that reaches Tibet from other provinces. The development focus of LAETDZ includes Tibetan medicine, tourism, solar energy and the processing of animal husbandry products.
